Rolling hills of vines. Cabernet and chocolate pairings. Hot-air balloons rising at dawn. Dinner a deux at a Michelin-starred restaurant. The Napa Valley is surely one of the best destinations in the world to celebrate romance. And Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so now’s the time to plan something big. Here’s a partial list of parties, events, and specials to get you going.
If you and your beloved enjoy cooking together, the Kitchen Collective is presenting “My Funny Valentine,” a Rat Pack-themed evening of culinary preparation and dining. The six-course meal will include oysters, filet mignon, and vanilla and chocolate mille-feuille. You’re encouraged to bring your own bottle of wine (no corkage fee). Cliff Lede Vineyards will host a romantic evening of fine wine and cuisine at its Stag’s Leap District estate winery. The multi-course dinner will be catered by Tre Posti, founded by the former Tra Vigne group, and will include a live tableside mozzarella pulling demonstration and feature surprise musical entertainment. The meal will be paired to wines from both the FEL and Cliff Lede Vineyards portfolios, including a special 2005 library vintage of the Cliff Lede Vineyards Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon, which earned 95 points from Robert Parker. Saturday, February 10, 6 pm. Tickets are $195 for club members, $250 for non-members.
Stags’ Leap Winery. Book a special Valentine’s edition of Stag’s Leap’s Private Estate Experience. Guests will receive a personalized tour of the historic estate followed by a private seated tasting with savory, Valentine’s-inspired pairings. Available February 12 to 18 at 11 am.
The Grill at Silverado Resort & Spa is featuring a special Valentine’s Day menu on February 14 that features chicory salad with ricotta, toasted pecans, and blood orange vinaigrette; roasted chestnut soup; grilled filet mignon or pan-roasted mahi-mahi; and chocolate velvet cake with raspberry sauce. $75 per person includes a glass of sparkling wine.
Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa is offering a “Hot, Steamy, and Dreamy Valentine’s Day package,” which includes two nights in one of its renovated, retro-chic rooms outfitted with rainfall showers and hoodie sweatshirt robes to cuddle in; a Mudnage à Trois spa experience for two at its MoonAcre Spa and Baths, including time at the DIY Mud Bar, two private bathing sessions, and two 50-minute massages; an aphrodisiacal wine and chocolate pairing experience for two at Clif Family Winery's tasting room; and a naughty dice-and-board game to enjoy in your room and take home for later. Package is available for all of February.
Judd’s Hill will host its annual Valentine’s Day party with pourings of its own wines, delicious nibbles, and a dynamic duo of masseurs giving complimentary neck and shoulder massage. Sunday, February 11 from noon to 2:30 pm. Tickets are $55 per person.
Napa Valley Balloons suggests a private hot-air balloon flight at sunrise with your sweetheart. Once you’ve floated back down to earth, you’ll toast each other with a glass of sparkling wine over brunch at Domaine Chandon winery. If you mention Visit Napa Valley at the time of reservation, they’ll include an exclusive in-flight photo package to commemorate your special day. Two Birds/One Stone will be featuring a romantic, prix-fixe menu on Valentine’s Day that will include black truffle miso soup, Dungeness crab fried rice, truffled Waygu pot roast, and passion fruit panna cotta for dessert. Wednesday, February 14, with seatings at 5:30, 6, 7, 7:30, and 8 pm. $95 per person.
The newly renovated River Terrace Inn in Napa is offering a special Valentine’s Day package that includes accommodations with balcony, breakfast for two in ALBA Restaurant, locally source sparkling wine with fresh berries, and an intimate couple’s kit. The Silverado Cooking School is hosting a Couple’s Dinner and Valentine’s Date Night. From cakes and cookies to mousses, this is a perfect class to get ready for Valentine’s Day. Lunch will also be served. Saturday, February 9, 10 am to 2 pm. $160 per person.
