The sixth annual Napa Valley Arts in April concludes with the ENGAGE Art Fair April 30 and May 1, 2016 at the Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga, CA.
Arts in April 2016 features more than 80 opportunities for visitors to explore the wealth of local artists, world class exhibitions and creative events from American Canyon up to Calistoga. Celebrate the Napa Valley’s most creative month and meet local artists, experience live performances, tours, discussions and exclusive tastings in America’s premier wine region. A complete list of Arts in April 2016 events may be found here.
In its second year, ENGAGE Art Fair provides an interactive, sensory experience for guests and an alternative to the traditional booth-style art fair setting. ENGAGE is open to professional artists living or working in the San Francisco Bay Area who specialize in functional art and high quality craft as well as fine artists and musicians.
Presented by Celebrate! Napa Valley in collaboration with Arts Council Napa Valley, Visit Napa Valley and Napa Valley Museum, ENGAGE Art Fair features some of the Bay Area’s best artists, craftspeople and performers who come to Calistoga to meet, create and engage with the public.
This year’s Art Fair will feature a “Makers’ Marketplace” in the area surrounding the 11,000 square foot main Tubbs Building at the Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga, which will be converted into a gallery space to exhibit the artists working in a wide variety of mediums and styles. Guests may also learn simple printmaking techniques with master artists Oscar Aguilar Olea and Carina diMarcellis and have the opportunity to take home their prints.
Other new experiences for 2016 include a “Treasure Calistoga Scavenger Hunt” created by Treasure Napa, a group of artists who create regular treasure hunts via Instagram to support local businesses around Napa. Guests will also hear live performances by more than ten local bands that will perform live acoustic sets during both days of the event.
Artist in Residence
ENGAGE 2016 will feature its second Artist in Residence, painter Angela Tirrell. During both days of the event, Angela will work on one of her large abstract pieces and demonstrate how she incorporates unusual textural materials into her work (including mica, glass, straw, raw pigments and objects such as BB gun pellets and acupuncture needles). Prior to the event, Angela will also create a ‘planted painting’ in the flowerbeds outside the main entrance of the Tubbs Building.
In her work, Angela explores the range of conditions on earth, from the brutal to the miraculous. Her conviction has always been that “art provides the most compelling reflection of reality." Angela’s creative talents extend from those in the studio to large-scale mural and decorative painting, color consulting and xeric garden design. The artist grew up in San Francisco, and now divides her time between her home in Napa and family in Inverness, CA.
