City of Napa

Walk, bike, kayak, shop, sip, eat, splurge in Downtown Napa

As the largest town in Napa Valley, Napa is a destination in its own right — home to locally-driven restaurants, hip wine tasting rooms, stylish boutiques and whimsical works of public art. For a change of scenery, rent kayaks and paddle the Napa River. Shopping is sport here, too, whether you're looking for art or something new to wear for dinner.

Once you get to Napa...

Stroll downtown’s First Street Napa, which spans three city blocks and is home to boutiques, restaurants, and Archer Hotel Napa. Have a drink at the rooftop bar, Sky & Vine. A few minutes away, The Village at Vista Collina Resort is part of the recently opened Meritage Resort; bring a picnic and stretch out on the expansive lawn. Meet local farmers and artisans at the year-round Napa Farmers Market, held every Saturday. It’s a true feast for the senses. Stroll Oxbow Public Market for a bite to eat or a gift to take home. When the sun sets, catch a concert at Blue Note Napa or the art deco Uptown Theatre.

A little Napa history

The city of Napa today owes much of its look and feel to the Napa of the 1840s. Because of the river that bisected town, Napa began as a trade and transportation hub. The city was developed in the 1840s, and some of the first downtown buildings were a saloon and general store. Wealthy ship captains, bankers, and tannery owners built Victorian mansions downtown, and many have been restored as small inns.
