Entries are accepted until August 25, 2023 in seven categories:

• Accommodations – Great Wine Capitals considers aspects such as style and quality, whether the accommodation is chain-affiliated or independent, location, rates, wider amenities, and other awards won.
• Wine Tourism Restaurants – The menu philosophy of the restaurant and use of local products are judged, as well as features like the restaurant’s style, location, wine list, and size.
• Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices – (Open to wineries only) Environmentally sustainable innovations and developments are commended with a Great Wine Capitals Award, while also considering involvement in, philosophy for, and promotion of sustainable practices developed in wine tourism activities, aiming to inspire concern.
• Architecture & Landscapes – (Open to wineries only) Particular architectural merits are assessed against the background of how the architecture and park promote the winery, as well as renovations and additions to improve the impact for the visitor and on the environment.
• Art & Culture – (Open to wineries only) Attention is paid to the particular art or cultural facilities on offer; examples being a museum, art collection, temporary exhibition, or specific events; and the philosophy behind their incorporation into a wine property and in the promotion of the winery.
• Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences – (Open to wineries only) Great Wine Capitals are looking to award original and innovative wine-related activities that create a distinctive experience for the visitors, for example, horse riding, a walk in the vineyards, specific cellar door activities, or unique wine tours.
• Wine Tourism Services – Activities related to wine tourism are assessed for an Award, specifically additions or initiatives that have been undertaken in the previous year to offer an exceptional experience to visitors, which also offers value for money.
