Judgment of Napa

October 28 - 29, 2020
Hosted by: Cultured Vine
Price: $1,500 - $15,000

Cultured Vine announces a unique tasting experience inspired by one of the most significant wine events in history.

Steven Spurrier and George Taber will return to Napa Valley for the Judgment of Napa – a modern day interpretation of the famed 1976 Judgment of Paris in which the victorious outcome of a blind tasting elevated the profile of all California wines. The Judgment of Napa, presented by Napa-based luxury concierge Angela Duerr and her Cultured Vine team will be held at Clos du Val on May 16, 2020 – making history for the 44th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris. Tickets go on sale Friday, December 6 with two pricing options for the once-in-a-lifetime weekend. This will be the first in a new series of sought-after events curated by Cultured Vine.

For this landmark event, Cultured Vine is inviting the public to participate as judges in the groundbreaking revival of the famed Judgment of Paris. 50 VIP guests paying $15,000 will have the unparalleled opportunity to partake in the tasting of wines selected by the Masters of Wine Peter Marks and Matt Deller, and sit side-by-side with key players of the original event, including Steven Spurrier and George Taber. 50 additional guests purchasing a $1,500 ticket will be part of the viewing audience, watching the tasting while enjoying other world-class wines. The weekend will also include accommodations (VIP guest ticket holders only), an opening reception at Meadowood Napa Valley and exclusive dinners with Napa’s most highly regarded vintners, available to both categories of ticket holders.

In 1976, the Judgment of Paris focused on a comparison of French and American Cabernet Sauvignons and Chardonnays, and a panel of French judges awarded top place to the American wines. It came to be seen as a major validation of the potential of fine wine in California, previously dismissed as inferior to its European counterpart. Now, the Judgment of Napa will raise the stakes by conducting a blind tasting competition between Napa Valley wines and the best wines from around the world.
