Kick Up Your Heels – Shoe Shopping in the Napa Valley
July 7, 2015
So you’ve come to the valley for a long weekend, and on Saturday night the heel broke on one of your Manolos. Or you just realized that four-inch Jimmy Choos aren’t the best choice for a long day of walking and wine-tasting. Or you forgot to pack your running shoes for a morning jog along the Silverado Trail. Or maybe you just never met a shoe shop you didn’t love.
Not to worry – Napa Valley has an assortment of shoe stores and boutiques that would satisfy even Carrie Bradshaw. From comfy sneakers to six-inch stilettos, you can find something to make your feet happy.
Marie Lyall Shoes – 710 Main Street; 707-257-8400. This elegant shop in the Riverfront neighborhood carries such high-end favorites as Donald Pliner, Arche, Stuart Weitzman, and Nomad, as well as a nice selection of other accessories like handbags, belts, hats, scarves, and hosiery.
Lark Shoes – 3900 Bel Aire Plaza; 707-226-9954. One of my favorites, this store features a wide selection of shoes that are designed for comfort but are still stylish. Brands include Birkenstock, Born, Ugg, Dansko, Ecco, and Mephisto.
Sole Desire – 1209 First Street; 707-252-7280. This downtown shop carries a full line of women’s shoes in 60 different brands, including Fiji, Riker, Clarks, Cob Hill and Uggs.
Napa Running Company – 942 Main Street; 707-255-6688. This well-stocked store focuses on running shoes for both men and women with trained staff to help you find the perfect fit for your foot and sport. Brands include Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Nike, Mizuno, Salomon, and Saucony. The store also offers other athletic apparel and accessories.
Athletic Feat – 3377 Solano Avenue; 707-258-6272. This is another great spot to outfit yourself for a workout or active day. Featured brands are Nike, Brooks, Hoka, Saucony, Mizuna, New Balance, and Inov.
Napa Premium Outlets – 629 Factory Stores Drive. Among the many excellent names featured at this outlet complex are high-end brands like Cole-Haan, Adidas, and Clarks. Just be forewarned that you may end up spending the whole day browsing all the other stores as well.
Flats – 1219 B Main Street; 707-967-0480. This European-style boutique features its own brand of handmade Italian ballet flats, moccasins, mules, loafers, espadrilles, and sandals in 60 different colors and materials. It also sells its own brand of Indian-made tunics, kaftans, and kurtas, a gorgeous line of cashmere wraps and scarves, and a small selection of jewelry. One of my personal faves.
Amelia Clare – 1230 Main Street; 707-963-8502. This is another quaint shop with an excellent range from walking shoes to sexy sling-backs. Brands include Thierry Rabotin, French Sole, Stuart Weitzman, Donald J. Pliner, and Luxury Rebel. There is also a nice selection of handbags and accessories.
Foot Candy – 1239 Main Street; 707-963-2040. Carrie Bradshaw would come here for sure. This is the place for designer shoes, from Manolo Blahnik to Christian Loutboutin to Kate Spade and Emma Hope. Also a nice selection of handbags and phone/tablet cases.
Sportago – 1224 Adams Street; 707-963-9042. This is a great little shop selling outdoor gear that has a small shoe department. Come here to find great shoes for hiking and vineyard walking, with brands like Asic, Hoka, Saucony, Salomon, Blundstone, Keen, and Ahnu.
Azusa – 1422 Lincoln Avenue; 707-341-3210. If your tastes run to the colorful and bohemian, this is the place for you. Azusa has a seriously fun selection of platforms, heels, and more comfy styles – their niche is the intersection of comfort and high fashion. Look for brands like Vionic, Earth, Fitflops, and Taos.
