Besides turning leaves and the musky smell of crush in the air, one reliable way to know that fall is here is the arrival of the Safeway Open golf tournament at Silverado Resort and Spa. This year the event is scheduled for the week of October 4 through 8 – and once again it will feature 42-time PGA Tour-winner Phil Mickelson heading a roster of 144 of the world’s best golfers.

But even if you’re not passionate about golf, there are plenty of reasons to come. As always, the PGA Tour will unite renowned golfers, local chefs, premium wineries, and headlining musicians – offering something for every interest. What’s more, event organizers have just announced that the popular rock band, the Goo Goo Dolls, will perform on Saturday night, October 7. Performances for the three-night concert series will start immediately after the golf tournament on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Soul and pop-rock singer Gavin DeGraw will kick-off the concerts on Thursday, and alt-rock Weezer will play Friday, with the Goo Goo Dolls closing out the concert series on Saturday.

The Goo Goo Dolls have sold more than 12 million records worldwide. Among their 19 top-10 singles, their song “Iris” was named the biggest pop radio song of the past 20 years by Billboard magazine.

The tournament is in its second year with Safeway as the title sponsor and is offering a total purse of $6.2 million, with $1.116 million to the winner. Last year the field included such elite players as Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Justin Thomas, Webb Simpson, and Paul Casey. Brendan Steele is the defending champion.

Daily tickets to the event have gone on sale and include admission to the Safeway Open Concert Series, as well as to the 27,000-square foot Safeway Food and Wine Pavilion with its on-site food, wine, beer, and spirits venues. So once you buy your original ticket, you’ll have entry to everything.
