Best Places to Curl Up by the Fire

Okay, so the weather outside isn’t as frightful as it would be in, say, Cleveland or Boston. But a fire is still delightful on a winter day (or evening) in the Napa Valley. And there are plenty of opportunities to sit fireside while wine-tasting, dining, or just reading that juicy romance novel you threw into your suitcase at the last minute. Here are a few ideas for “staying in” and enjoying a fire on your next visit to the valley.
Wineries
For blazing indoor hearths, check out the Persian-inspired Darioush, the chateau of Domaine Carneros, the cozy Far Niente Winery, the quirky Swanson Vineyards, or the always-popular fireside sipping at V. Sattui. CADE Winery has a firepit in its courtyard with expansive views of the valley, and Round Pond Estate holds its tastings on its partially covered outside terrace with outdoor fireplace.
Hotels
The list of Napa Valley hotels that include fireplaces in their guestrooms or lobbies is far too extensive to mention here, but some of our favorites include The Carneros Inn, Napa River Inn, Senza Hotel, the Cottages of Napa Valley, Cottage Grove Inn, Napa Valley Lodge, Vintage Inn, Auberge du Soleil, Meadowood Napa Valley, The Harvest Inn, Wine Country Inn, and Solage.
Restaurants
Looking for a special spot for that romantic dinner? Be sure to call ahead well in advance – the ultra-desirable tables by the fireplace can’t be left to chance. Try Press, Goose & Gander, R+D, Archetype, and the Bar at Auberge du Soleil. Solbar features contemporary fire pits both inside and outside, and the outdoor fire pit at The Carneros Inn’s FARM Restaurant is always popular.
