Street fare from food trucks isn’t just an urban phenomenon. In the Napa Valley, it’s one of the best options to grab some chow on the fly. Here are just a few of the reasons why you might consider finding a food truck on your next visit to the valley:
- You’re planning to have a five-course dinner at a white-tablecloth restaurant and don’t want to overdo it at lunch.
- You’re with three rambunctious kids who aren’t enthusiastic about sitting still for a couple of hours.
- Eating out three times a day is expensive!
- It’s too beautiful a day to go inside.
- Between your afternoon wine-tasting and the evening concert, there’s just no time.
Never fear. Chances are, you’re not that far from one of our local food trucks. Here are a few of our recent favorites.
Bruschetteria. This locally popular food truck travels around the valley but can most often be found parked next to Velo Vino Winery in St. Helena. The menu, which changes daily, features a Northern Italian-inspired menu of farm fresh bruschetta, spiedini, salads, rotisserie chicken and sweets. And, during the month of June, it’s hosting several fun events at Velo Vino with live music or special themes:
Cousins Maine Lobster. Lobster rolls, served hot or cold; lobster quesadillas or tacos; lobster bisque; even lobster ice cream! All for under $15 per item. This truck is relatively new to the valley and is part of a successful, nationwide chain that achieved acclaim on the TV show Shark Tank. The NV truck is often parked in front of Flora Springs Winery in St. Helena, but also hangs out around other wineries around the valley. Check out their website for daily locations.
Crossroad Chicken. Has a wonderfully diverse menu, from their classic, wood-oven roasted chicken to slow-cooked Szechuan-style pork and Tuscan Pork-loin roast, and an amazing list of side dishes. Caters events but is also open to the public on selected days – check out the calendar on their website. Often open 11 am to 1 pm at 614 Airpark Road in the Napa Corporate Park. A great spot to catch if you’re in the Crusher Wine District.
La Esperanza Taco Truck. Known especially for its super-fresh fish tacos. Open 11 am to 9 pm daily at 1551 Soscol near Vallejo Street, across from the River Terrace Inn.
Phat Salads and Wraps. Offers a vast assortment of wraps, using freshly grilled chicken or steak, including gluten-free options. Located at three different Napa locations five days a week. Check its website for schedule.
