The Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa’s website opens with a quote from Jack London’s beat classic, On the Road: “But we lean forward to the next crazy adventure beneath the skies.” It’s a fitting prologue for this new Napa Valley venue, located at the junction of Lincoln Avenue and the Silverado Trail. Originally a 1940s roadside motel, the current incarnation is inspired by “the Great American Road Trip of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.” Its new décor has a retro-chic vibe with mid-century modern furnishings.

The CML’s 50 rooms are filled with whimsical touches, like jump ropes and hula hoops. There are rainfall showers, hoodie sweatshirt robes, and pour-over Equator coffee. And there are lots of community-building activities, like board games and weekly pool parties. (If you’re a Baby Boomer, it’ll make you nostalgic for your 60s childhood.)

Many of Calistoga’s hotels and spas are built to take advantage of the area’s natural geothermal pools, and the CML is no exception. There are three mineral soaking pools fed from hot springs underneath the property, naturally heated by the earth and ranging in temperatures from 82˚ to 104˚. Their benefits include intense relaxation, detoxifying the system, smoothing the skin,  refreshing oxygen levels, and calming the nerves. Before or after your soak, there are relaxing chaises, rocking chairs, and even poolside hammocks.

The property’s Moonacre Spa and Baths is modeled on old-fashioned bath-houses and even includes a DIY mud bar. Treatments include the Hair of the Dog revival cure for detox, a Mulled Wine Country Scrub featuring crushed grape seeds and a massage with orange-and-ginger-infused oil. And of course there’s always the option to add a killer massage to your treatment.

Later this year, CML will launch Fleetwood, a concept restaurant integrating an open, wood-fired kitchen and beer garden. Guests can enjoy lingering Calistoga evenings with a seasonal menu at outdoor picnic tables and fire pits.

The Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa offers a variety of packages and specials to entice you to stay – whether it’s a quick weekend getaway or a more leisurely vacation. Whatever your plans, the CML promises a colorful time.
