Napa Valley Selections
Chardonnay. Napa Valley
Following the classic style that Mike Grgich established when his Chardonnay won the 1976 Paris Tasting, we did not allow the Chardonnay to undergo malolactic fermentation and our natural farming created a wine that is alive with delicious acidity.
Tasting notes: crisp, yet rich, flavors of apple, honeydew melon and fig with a hint of baked brioche.
Fumé Blanc, Napa Valley
This 100% Sauvignon Blanc is grown at our two vineyards in the coolest part of the Napa, in the southern tip of the valley. The coolness restrains vigor and allows the grapes to develop a crisp liveliness that is impossible to achieve in warmer areas.
Tasting notes: crisp, yet rich, flavors of lychee, jalapeno and white pepper.
Zinfandel, Napa Valley
Mike Grgich’s home overlooks our estate vineyard in Calistoga, the site of our Zinfandel. The vineyard’s gravelly loam provide excellent drainage and the cloudless days and cool nighttime temperatures are perfect for sun-loving Zinfandel.
Tasting notes: Classic Zinfandel flavors of strawberries, raspberries and plums
Merlot, Napa Valley
We blended Merlot grapes grown at four of our five vineyards, with just a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon to add complexity. By blending wine from four distinctive growing regions within Napa Valley, we crafted a complex, balanced Merlot. 14.8% Alc.
Tasting notes: A Cabernet lovers’ Merlot! Full-bodied, with strawberries, cherries, licorice and coffee.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley.
Our Yountville vineyard provides the heart of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with our Rutherford and Calistoga vineyards rounding out the blend. Each lot is aged separately for several months and then blended to create an elegant, complex wine..
Tasting notes: Rich aromas of black berries, black licorice and a hint of cocoa powder.
Special Selection wines
These wines are produced in limited quantizes from specially selected blocks and usually are only found in our tasting room.
Chardonnay, Carneros Selection.
For this limited production wine, we selected our best lots from the oldest vineyard block, which is planted to the old Wente clone, in the cool Carneros region of Napa Valley.
Tasting notes: Rich and elegant, with delicate floral aromas backed by Asian pears, white truffles and a hint of mineral on the long finish
Napa Valley Essence.
We use only the best blocks that express the true nature—the essence—of our Sauvignon Blanc vineyards, primarily Clone 1 vines grown in our chilly American Canyon Vineyard in southern Napa Valley.
Tasting notes: Classic, concentrated, flavors of grapefruit and lemon are supported by mouthwatering minerality and lingering finish
Cabernet Sauvignon, Yountville Selection.
We’re proud to be the custodians of some of oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Napa Valley: a block in Yountville of the Inglenook clone, planted on St. George rootstock in 1959.
Tasting notes: full-bodied with firm tannins with rich aromas of blackberry, black licorice and allspice and a hint of black pepper.
Petite Sirah, Miljenko’s Vineyard
This 100% Petite Sirah was grown at Miljenko’s Vineyard above Calistoga, our warmest vineyard, and then aged for almost three years in oak barrels.
Tasting notes: a substantial wine with flavors of blueberry, blackberry and roasted coffee.
Miljenko’s Old Vine Zinfandel
Mike Grgich’s home overlooks the few rows of Zinfandel that were planted more than 100 years ago in our vineyard above Calistoga.
Tasting notes: full-bodied, packed with black cherries, plums and a hint of black pepper on the long finish.
Violetta, late harvest
This uniquely delicious late-harvest wine depends on Botrytis cinerea, a special fungus that permeates the grape skin, concentrating the sugar and flavors.
Tasting notes: Aromas of baked pear, orange blossom honey and citrus.
